Q: What do you think attracted Zhuang Guo Dong to Huang Yi Mei?
Peng Guan Ying:
When they first met, in Zhuang Guo Dong’s mind, Huang Yi Mei was dazzling and showed courage in her character traits and independence in her attitude towards love.
Q: How would you describe the different emotional stages of the two people?
Peng Guan Ying:
It was love at first sight when they first met. It can be described in three phrases.
All his emotions were hidden.
He created various opportunities and pretended to be casual,
but in fact he was always paying attention to the girl he admired.
In their second encounter, it was still being in love at second sight. The third stage was running towards each other wehn the two were in different places, and they were talking on the phone under the rain. Zhuang Guo Dong said on the phone: “The rain from Shanghai has reached Beijing.” In fact, I added these words myself, and I think it is quite romantic.
In the end, the two broke up. This stage was a painful to leave behind your love. When he received the notice of new employment, his relationship with Rose was rapidly heating up. He had to make a choice. If he chose work, they would have to live apart. If he stayed in Beijing, he would lose a job opportunity that he had waited for a long time and worked so hard for.

If he was given another chance to choose, I don’t think he would make the same choice. When I was laying out the story of this character’s exit, I actually had an answer: I tried my best to give him another alternative. In fact, in the drama, everyone will see the ending I wanted to write after watching it.
Q: What’s the sweetest scene between the two of you?
Peng Guan Ying:
It was the scene where they sealed their love over the phone. Huang Yi Mei meant a beautiful love to Zhuang Guo Dong .
The director used the method of imagery to bring two young people who were at in different places together. That scene was an important connecting point which was their confirmation that they could start a relationship.
Q: Which scene was the most painful?
Peng Guan Ying:
The scene where we were about to separate was a setting on a small bed in a corner, which would shake if we moved casually. She walked past me, kissed me, and then left. Our relationship entered another chapter.
Why do I say this is a painful scene? Because at that moment, I actually felt all her actions: her getting up, her kissing me goodbye, her leaving. But at this time, the “god who controls the fate of the character” gave me an order – “You are not allowed to wake up”, so I could only close my eyes and feel it all, letting it happen quietly.
Q: What is the difference between “Zhuang Guo Dong” and your previous roles?
Peng Guan Ying:
When I got the role of Zhuang Guo Dong, I was also thinking about letting go of some of the appearance/manners of my previous roles .
I wore suits in “To Dear Myself” and “The Confidence” (Under the Sun), and I will be wearing suits in “The Tale of Rose” this time. With the similar clothing, but different occupation and character traits, can I give different feelings? I have to find differences from the interior within a framework.
In “To Dear Myself”, I gave the character some life-like characteristics, being angry like being on fire. In “The Confidence”, he was very superficial because he had to rely on those qualities to hide the complex and “bad” things in his heart. As for Zhuang Guo Dong, I wanted to give him more dignity and elegant qualities.
As an actor, I still want a lot of breakthroughs and challenges. No one knows when they will come or what results they will achieve. When that role appears, I will be very eager to create him. I think will be a fine ideal that I particularly want to pursue in the future on the path of an actor.
Perhaps it’s like Zhuang Guo Dong’s lines in the drama.
